Townsville

Situated on the North-eastern coastline of Queensland, the city of Townsville is 1359 km north of the state's capital of Brisbane, and is the largest tropical city in Northern Australia with a growing population of 150 000.

Situated within the 'dry tropics', the city basks in an almost unbroken spell of warmth and sunshine - round 300 days of sunshine each year - providing the perfect opportunity to experience life in the tropics!

Townsville is a vibrant, warm and bright city with an exciting range of entertainment, restaurants, nightlife, activities and attractions.

The Townsville Strand beachfront promenade frames the city centre, and is regarded as one of the best inner city beachfronts in Australia. The Strand is lined with restaurants, cafes, bars, recreational facilities, barbeque and picnic areas, swimming enclosures and pools, a waterpark and playgrounds for children, beautiful gardens and sweeping views of Cleveland Bay and Magnetic Island.

Flinders Street East is the hub of nightlife in the city, with wine bars, nightclubs, pubs, restaurants and cafes creating an vibrant atmosphere. Jupiters Casino and the Entertainment & Convention Centre provide fantastic entertainment options and are in easy walking distance of Flinders Street East. Palmer Street is the restaurant strip, a trendy boulevard of restaurants, cafes and hotels all offering outdoor al fresco dining. Gregory Street which branches from The Strand offers trendy cafe dining and boutique shopping with a great "village" atmosphere.

Townsville is home to a range of fantastic attractions including Reef HQ, (the world's largest living coral reef experience), Billabong Sanctuary (an Australian animal wildlife park), the Museum of Tropical Queensland with the HMS Pandora exhibit, the IMAX Theatre, Perc Tucker Regional Gallery, the Palmetum, and of course Magnetic Island, just 25 minutes from the city by regular fastcat ferry or 45 minutes by car & passenger ferry.
