Common name: Lizardfish
Genus, species: Synodus infermedius
Family name: Synodontidae

The Lizardfish has a cigar shaped body with large pectoral fins which it uses to hold it head and large mouth up.  Its habitat is likely to be offshore sand or sandy patches in reefs, this fish can be seen whilst snorkelling and also scuba diving.  The lizardfish is an ambush predator feeding on small fish and crustaceans. It is a master of camouflage and doesn't move until approached, allowing the perfect photo opportunities.
